Along with millions of Canadians from coast to coast to coast, I support the adoption of a universal, single-payer public pharmacare program.

Canada spends far too much on prescription drugs, and too many in our country are struggling to afford the medications they need – particularly during a pandemic.

In its final report, the government’s pharmacare Advisory Council concluded that a national public universal program is the best option to reduce costs and ensure equal access to medicines for all.

Canadians were thrilled to see the Liberal Party of Canada’s 2019 federal election campaign commitment to implementing pharmacare under the guidance of the Advisory Council’s recommendations. In addition, the New Democratic Party and the Green Party of Canada campaigned in support of universal single-payer public pharmacare.

Canada has never come this close to fulfilling the unfinished business of medicare. By following through on your election promise, you can prevent the tragic loss of lives due to a lack of access to affordable medication.
