Where’s the real plan for mountain caribou?

Help B.C.'s caribou

Despite federal and provincial government plans and policies, caribou numbers continue to drop with several herds gone, and little chance to recover them back to their range.

Like most animals, in order to survive and thrive, mountain caribou need their natural habitat. If we are serious about caribou recovery, we should be doing everything we can to slow the loss of habitat.

But just released research shows the rate of caribou habitat loss has actually been accelerating. Logging and wildfire have emerged as the leading causes of this loss.

You can help with this situation today.

While governments are stuck in a seemingly endless cycle of planning to recover the species, caribou habitat is literally being hauled away on trucks every day. The new research shows that between 2000 and 2018, twice as much caribou habitat was lost as had been gained.

In the meantime, bandages are being applied to an emergency situation. Wolf culls, maternity penning, and translocations are only going to delay extinction if we don’t get serious about habitat protection now.

Send your letter now. Let government know you want to see habitat protection for mountain caribou. Ask them to build on the positive partnership agreement in northern B.C. with West Moberly and Saulteau First Nations, by protecting caribou habitat for all herds.

Please personalize your letter so every message counts. Let’s address the sad state of caribou in B.C., together.
