My name is Kenisha Arora and I am a Canadian living in Mississauga, Ontario. When I was a young girl, my parents immigrated from India to give me a quality education, which to them symbolized a brighter future. Since then, I have been a tireless advocate for global education because where you live should not determine your fundamental human right to quality education.

Between the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, climate catastrophes and devastating conflicts, there are 222 million children and youth in need of education support in some of the most volatile regions of the world. Challenges like these can feel incredibly overwhelming, but we can take action to ensure that the most marginalized children and youth are not left behind. Education is not only a human right, it is a pathway to a more hopeful, more just and more peaceful and prosperous future for all.

Canada has been a leader in global education through the historic financial investments made at the G7 Summit in 2018. However, this funding is coming to an end, threatening the right to education for millions of young people around the world. Join me and concerned Canadians across the country to demand that the federal government keep its promise to increase international development assistance every year and that at least 10% of its bilateral assistance is dedicated to global education in Budget 2023.  Sign this petition so that every child has the opportunity to attend school, learn and decide their own future.
