Tell your candidates: Build Modern, Fast and Frequent Passenger Rail
It is time for fast, clean, electrified passenger rail to bring Canadians together and to help grow our economy.
After years of study, the Government of Canada finally announced the approval of VIA Rail Canada’s High Frequency Rail proposal in July. This would provide 200km/h express passenger train service between Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City, including a new dedicated passenger line through Peterborough.
So far, the government’s financial commitment is small, and the suggested time line indicates that the new service is up to a decade away! Canada does not have the luxury of time when it comes to addressing climate change and traffic congestion.
With an upcoming election on September 20, let your federal candidates know that High Frequency Rail to modernize Canada's railways must be implemented more quickly.
