Recover the MSC as an Early Voting Location!

On July 5, 2022, the Brazos County Commissioners Court voted to remove Texas A&M’s only on-campus, early voting location, the Memorial Student Center (MSC), making it significantly harder for TAMU students, faculty, and staff to vote early. The MSC Votes coalition – made up of organizations including Texas Rising, MOVE, CMSA, FREE Aggies, ALPHA, Brazos SDS, League of Women Voters of Brazos Valley, and Young Dems of Brazos Valley – have fought back.

In preparation for the November election, the Brazos County Commissioners Court will decide polling locations by July, and the MSC Votes coalition is calling on our supporters to help. Join Texas Rising in pressuring the Brazos County Commissioners Court to return the MSC as an early voting location!

TALKING POINTS IF SPEAKING TO COMMISSIONER/REP:
Reasons why we need an MSC early voting location:

  1. We need an MSC early voting location to provide an accessible voting location for TAMU students.
  2. We need an MSC early voting location to encourage new voters, like the first-year student population and working students, to be civically engaged.
  3. We need an on-campus early voting location to represent the diverse Bryan/College Station population that attends Texas A&M.
  • The County Chairs for the GOP and Democratic Party have expressed their support for recovering the MSC.
  • The MSC was recently renovated and is ADA-compliant.
  • There are currently over 72,000 students enrolled at Texas A&M University, and making it increasingly difficult for them to vote early is voter suppression. On-campus polling locations allow diverse groups of young people to make their voices heard at the ballot box and beyond in a safe, close location, often sparking lifelong patterns of civic engagement.
  • Voting should be easy. Our local politicians and leaders are responsible for ensuring greater access to the voting booth by creating conditions that favor voter education and registration.
