Tell Your Senators to Abolish the Filibuster!

The filibuster is standing in the way of voting rights for Black and Brown Americans.

We’re facing one of the greatest threats to American democracy as one political party tries to ensure minority rule by preventing Black and Brown people from voting.

The For the People Act is a critical first step in fighting back and bringing transformative change to the electoral process. The For the People Act (also known as H.R. 1 or S. 1) would expand our right to vote, stop partisan gerrymandering, and take dark money out of politics.

This week, the filibuster blocked the For the People Act. So we're calling to abolish it.

Coined a ‘Jim Crow relic’ by President Obama, the filibuster is an outdated Senate rule that allows a minority of Senators to block bills favored by the majority.

Already, Republicans have filibustered the Jan. 6 commission to investigate the white supremacist insurrection on the Capitol and a pay equity bill to address the gender pay gap. These examples build on a long, shameful history of the filibuster being used to block civil rights. Among the most alarming examples, the filibuster has blocked nearly 200 anti-lynching bills.

We can't let voting rights suffer the same fate. To pass the For the People Act, the filibuster has to go.
