Your Phone Calls Needed to Protect Texas Beach Access - Stop TX Senate Bill 434 and HB 3114

Goal: 500

The right to beach access is dear to all Texans. Now is the time to act to protect this right!

Our beach access rights continue to be threatened by bad beach access bills that have been introduced in the current state legislative session. Senate Bill 2550 and House Bill 4712, and additional bills that have since been introduced, if passed, have the potential to severely affect the public’s right to access large sections of Texas beaches. Currently Texans have the right to access the state’s beaches from the mean low tide line to the line of vegetation. This right is guaranteed by the Texas Open Beaches Act which became law in 1959 and was voted into the Texas State Constitution in 2009 by 75% of those voting in a statewide referendum.

Senate Bill 2550 and House Bill 4712 have both been assigned to committees, so your calls are needed to the committee Chairpersons to send them the message: Don’t Mess With Texas Beach Access.

Take action now to save this precious right by opposing SB 2550 and HB 4712.

Here's a suggested script for your call:

For Chairman Birdwell’s office:
Hello. I am calling to ask that Chairman Birdwell oppose any bills that would modify beach access provisions. SB 2550, which was introduced by Senator Middleton and is now assigned to the Senate Natural Resources and Economic Development Committee, is one of several bad bills that would change how the public beach area is determined and could restrict Texans from being able to exercise their rights to access large sections of Texas beaches. Beach access rights are dear to me and to all Texans. Please ask Chairman Birdwell to oppose this bill and don’t mess with Texas beach access.

For Chairman King’s office:
Hello. I am calling to ask that Chairman King oppose any bills that would modify beach access provisions. HB 4712, which was introduced by Representative Hayes and is now assigned to the House Natural Resources Committee, is one of several bad bills that would change how the public beach area is determined and could restrict Texans from being able to exercise their rights to access large sections of Texas beaches. Beach access rights are dear to me and to all Texans. Please ask Chairman King to oppose this bill and don’t mess with Texas beach access.
