Tell DeSantis to Sign HB 105 Butts Off the Beach Law

butts on the beach
Goal: 1000

Help us get HB 105 over the finish line. Tell the Governor to sign HB 105 to locally regulate smoking litter on our beaches and parks.

The Florida Legislature has sent HB 105 (Fine, Altman) Regulation of Smoking by Counties and Municipalities to the Governor for a signature.

Please take action on this very important bill that will allow local communities the right to protect our health, wildlife, waterways, beaches and parks from dirty smoking litter! This is the last stop to make it law and it has taken years of hard work from volunteers like you to finally get it through. Don’t stop now!

Surfrider Foundation supports HB 105 as our volunteers know too well the damage this litter has done to our beaches and wildlife. Despite our objection to the carve outs for unfiltered cigars and pipes, we consider getting local control back to rid Florida beaches and parks of dirty cigarette butts to be a huge win!
Current law prohibits local governments from setting up reasonable smoke-free zones so that our residents and visitors can enjoy public parks, playgrounds, recreation fields and beaches without exposure to unhealthy second-hand smoke and filthy litter. This law would allow us to change that at the local level!
Please call and email Governor DeSantis and tell him we want to have the right to regulate smoking on our local parks and beaches. And please thank your Senator and Representative if they voted yes for local control of smoking pollution.
