Protect our Coasts from New Oil & Gas Drilling

Congressional leaders have introduced legislation to permanently ban new offshore oil and gas drilling in U.S. waters, including the Atlantic, Pacific, Eastern Gulf of Mexico and Arctic Ocean. Passing these bills is critical to protecting our marine ecosystems, as well as coastal recreation and tourism opportunities across the United States.

Congress can also reject the Biden administration’s controversial plan to approve new offshore drilling in the next 5-year plan. On September 29, the administration announced plans for new leasing in the Gulf of Mexico that will lock us into decades of additional carbon emissions. A 60-day congressional review on the plan is now open.

Please tell federal leaders to stop new oil and gas drilling!

Oil and gas drilling is a polluting activity that damages our environment and puts human communities at risk. The industry causes grave impacts through every phase of the process and contributes to climate change as our nation and world struggle to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

Congress must protect our coasts and ocean from new oil and gas drilling. Please take action today!

Please protect the Atlantic, Pacific, Gulf of Mexico and other U.S. waters from new offshore oil and gas development by co-sponsoring the following bills: The West Coast Protection Act (S. 22, H.R. 470); The Clean Ocean And Safe Tourism (COAST) Anti-Drilling Act (S. 1851 / H.R. 3116), The Florida Coastal Protection Act (H.R.1443), The Southern California Coast and Ocean Protection Act (H.R. 3978), The North Pacific Ocean Protection Act (H.R. 4030) and the Arctic Ocean Protection Act (H.R. 4031) and the Nonrestrictive Offshore Wind (NOW) Act (H.R. 4936).

Please also reject the Biden administration’s proposed final 5-year offshore drilling plan that includes three new lease sales in the Gulf of Mexico. New leasing in the 5-year plan will further expand drilling in U.S. waters and lock our nation into decades of additional carbon emissions. A congressional review period on the 5-year plan is open until November 29.

Oil and gas development is a polluting activity that puts our coastal economies, communities, and environment at risk. The impacts from routine operations and inevitable oil spills harm the coastal recreation and tourism sector that engages millions of Americans and generates billions of dollars in economic revenue. New oil and gas leasing will also exacerbate the effects of climate change.

We must protect our marine ecosystems and coastal communities from the risky practice of offshore drilling, and support a just transition to renewable energy. Thank you in advance for protecting U.S. waters and lands from new oil and gas leasing.
