Time to hold companies accountable for the plastic they produce
Plastic pollution is everywhere in the Great Lakes and ocean, harming wildlife from birds to beluga whales. On land, plastic production and disposal puts frontline communities at risk. Illinois needs to step up now to solve this growing problem, and you can help.

Our state needs to require manufacturers to reduce plastic packaging and shift to reusable systems. The single-use plastic that remains would need to be truly recyclable, and oversight agencies would be empowered to hold industries responsible to pay for managing this waste.

As a proud Illinoisan and your constituent, I’m very concerned about the amount of plastic waste polluting our communities, Great Lakes and rivers.

Plastic can now be found in almost every marine habitat on Earth — including right here in our Illinois waters, where researchers have found it across our Great Lakes. New research shows that plastic has a disproportionate impact on communities near where it's manufactured and disposed and contributes to climate change.

I urge you to take action and advance comprehensive extended producer responsibly legislation. Now is the time to advance legislation to reduce the amount of unnecessary single-use plastic polluting our waterways and communities and hold companies accountable for the plastic waste they produce.
