Red Zone Relief

Demand Immediate Relief For Red Zone Residents

Our leaders have failed to ensure the peace and prosperity of workers and residents in the Red Zone—it’s time they make things right.

Workers and residents living in the Red Zone have been forced to endure weeks of constant disruptive noise, unsafe streets for pedestrians, and countless other blatant bylaw infractions. Vulnerable members of the community faced targeted harassment and assaults.

An attempted arson by the occupiers endangered the lives of residents in one apartment complex, and Ottawa’s leaders’ failure to act enabled copycat crimes to flourish with at least one documented report of occupiers testing handcuffs to barricade the doors of residential buildings.

Many were forced to miss work, pay more towards mental health care, and make arrangements to protect their children as schools were targeted by occupiers.

The failure to act by all levels of government made them complicit in enabling this loss of capital, and destruction of health and wellbeing. The Ottawa Police was documented countless times actively encouraging the occupation that led to these unlawful acts.

It’s well past time our leaders make things right. After weeks of hardship, residents in Ottawa’s Red Zone are demanding immediate financial relief.

We’re calling for an emergency relief benefit for Red Zone residents who have lost wages and had their lives disrupted due to the failure to stop the ongoing occupation.

Email your MP, MPP, and Ottawa City Council to demand immediate relief for Red Zone residents.
