Support the End TB Now Act

Call Your Representatives: Support Passage of the End TB Now Act!

202
Goal: 300

Tuberculosis (TB) is the leading infectious killer in the world, disproportionately affecting communities that are marginalized and impoverished. Tuberculosis is preventable, treatable, and curable. Yet, in 2022, over 10.6 million people fell ill with TB and 1.3 million people died from the disease globally.

The U.S. Congress can help save lives by commiting to a robust global TB response. The End TB Now Act of 2023 is a revitalized commitment to reach and treat the most vulnerable populations for all forms of TB. Specifically, it addresses drug-resistant strains of TB and outlines updated practices and technologies to strengthen our response.

The U.S. Senate on September 19, 2024, passed their version of the bill (S. 288 - CSPAN, RESULTS), and now your support is crucial for getting a House floor vote on their parallel bill (H.R. 1776) as soon as possible! We want this bill to pass before the end of 2024, before Congress turns over, and the House is in session for votes: September 23-27, November 12-21, and December 3-19.

My name is (YOUR NAME HERE) and I’m a constituent from zip code (#####). I’m calling to request Representative (NAME) move the bipartisan End Tuberculosis Now Act of 2023 (H.R.1776) to the floor for a vote before the end of the 118th Congress. This bipartisan reauthorization bill just passed the Senate with unanimous consent on September 19, 2024. The House bill (H.R. 1776) is led by Reps. Salazar, Fitzpatrick, Sherman, and Bera and has 90 co-sponsors.

I care about this personally because 10 million people fall ill with tuberculosis each year and one-third don’t have access to care. Tuberculosis is the leading infectious disease killer in the world, causing 1.3 million deaths in 2022, and with over 10,000 annual cases in the US. This reauthorizing bill does not include specific appropriations amounts, and lays out key policy goals and targets to end the scourge of tuberculosis, which is preventable, treatable, and curable.
