Dear allies,
At 5pm on October 7, 2024, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC) and US Environmental Protection Agency will host an Environmental Justice Listening session in Rochester, New York. This is a critical opportunity for allies like you to raise questions and concerns about the impacts of WNY STAMP directly with agency decisionmakers. If you’re in the area, please join us! Click here for all the details about the listening session, including talking points and key demands from the Tonawanda Seneca Nation.
Can’t make it to the listening session? No problem. You can still take action to lift up a critical demand from the Nation. Use our simple one-click tool below to demand that the NYSDEC revoke the ECL Article 24 permit issued to STAMP developer GCEDC for construction of its wastewater pipeline through the Iroquois National Wildlife Refuge. Your emails will be sent directly to decisionmakers at the NYSDEC.
As you know, construction on this pipeline was halted a year ago, in September 2023, after spills of 500-700 gallons of hydraulic drilling fluid into the Refuge. This environmental degradation was followed by a botched remediation process. In June 2024, following months of concerted advocacy (including a federal lawsuit!) by the Nation and allies like you, the US Fish and Wildlife Service finally revoked a key right of way permit allowing construction of the wastewater pipeline through the Refuge. However, despite ongoing demands from the Nation, the NYSDEC has refused to terminate DEC permits for the pipeline.
Take action now! Use our simple automated tool below to tell the NYSDEC: Protect our Refuge! Pull the ECL Article 24 permit TODAY.
In solidarity,
Allies of the Tonawanda Seneca Nation
