Demand Your Reps Support Registry! (H.R. 1511)

All immigrants should have the right to live with dignity in the country they call home. However, with DACA under attack in the courts and anti-immigrant legislation being passed at the state and local level nationwide, opportunities for our immigrant communities to live with freedom and safety have become far and few in between.

Our elected officials in Congress should not sit around and wait for the courts to decide the futures of more than 600,000 DACA recipients and their loved ones, nor should they sit on their hands as anti-immigrant sentiment continues to rise across our country. We need Congress to pass permanent protections for immigrant communities now, and Congress has the power to do so by simply updating the registry date via the Renewing Immigration Provisions of the Immigration Act of 1929 (H.R. 1511).

This simple update would ensure that 8 million DACA recipients, TPS holders, and other long-time residents would be able to access permanent residency and live with the dignity our communities deserve. Specifically, the bill establishes eligibility for a green card with seven years of presence in the U.S., and incorporates a rolling component so that future legislation would not be required to update the registry. Immigrants would be able to continue to access permanent residency in the future.

The choice for Congress is clear. Call your representatives and ask them to fight with us for a United States that truly values freedom and safety for all.
