Tell Toronto City Council to legalize multiplexes across the city - for real!
Toronto is about to legalize multiplexes.
More than half of Toronto's residential land is currently reserved for detached homes - and detached homes only. But City Council is about to change this - for real. Our volunteers have been tirelessly advocating to end the apartment ban that currently exists in most neighbourhoods. We've collectively shown up at public consultations to make the case for a multiplex policy that will actually make a difference.
The initial multiplex proposal had some shortcomings, but through the consultations, we advocated for putting a stronger proposal forward. There was over 80% support for multiplexes and, in the final proposal, City Planning staff have addressed nearly all our major points. For one, archaic and confusing floor-space index (FSI) maximums are proposed to be eliminated, which would greatly improve the viability of multiplexes.
The proposed zoning framework is going to City Council for a vote on May 10. We need to ensure it passes without getting watered down! Please email your councillor and Toronto City Council.
