Tell the Kansas House to Vote NO on Dangerous Child Care Deregulation Bill

Today (3/27/2024), the House debated House Sub for House Sub for SB 96. More than 1,100 Kansans used this action alert to urge their representatives to vote no on the bill because it ignored the work of the child care community.

Thankfully, lawmakers listened to Kansans and amended the bill on the floor to do a few things, including:

  • Keep the Office of Early Childhood as a standalone agency
  • Keep ratios OUT of law
  • Removes confusing commercial fire code language
  • Adds expansion of Child and Dependent Care Tax Credit

The bill then passed 107-10. This is a great step in the right direction for our child care system. We're glad to see this true compromise pass the House and hope the Senate will continue the good work when that chamber takes it up!

THANK YOU to everyone who spoke up. It made a huge difference.
