Demand the Senate Eliminate the Filibuster to Save Our Democracy

Write a letter to the editor of your local paper about why the Senate should eliminate the filibuster to reform our democracy. Use some of the sample language below.

The Senate has been the bottleneck preventing much of President Biden's agenda from becoming law. This is because Republican Senators, including [YOUR SENATORS] have been able to use the undemocratic Jim Crow filibuster to prevent an up-or-down vote on important matters, like democracy reform and voting rights. Protecting our democracy and securing our elections isn't controversial and shouldn’t be a partisan issue. Yet it has been clear that subverting our elections and voter suppression has been the chief tactic of the Republican party. Voting rights must pass this Congress or Republicans will continue their campaign of voter suppression and entrenched minority rule for generations to come. 

Republicans have rammed through several voter suppression bills all across the country. Here in [INSERT STATE], Republicans have passed [insert local/state anti-democratic bills/laws]. We cannot continue to let Republicans disenfranchise members of our state from all levels of government. Call your Senators and let them know getting in the way of voting rights is unacceptable. Then, join local groups like Indivisible or [partner orgs] are fighting to stop this from happening. We need everyone involved in our fight for democracy.
