Approve the Flood Protection Ordinance!

Our Don’t Build in the Swamp campaign has pushed forward the vote on a much improved Flood Prevention Ordinance (the first major update since 1987) to June 15th! It would create three huge wins for Horry County residents. If passed:

  • The county will implement flood protection measures in the Supplemental Flood Zone (SFZ) - that’s the area that flooded in Hurricane Florence, including thousands of homes missed by FEMA's maps
  • New homes and buildings in the floodplain (including the SFZ) will be required to be elevated 3 feet above expected flood levels
  • Fill used in the floodplain (including the SFZ) will be required not to increase flood heights

These are common sense measures. They’ll help to protect county residents. And they’ll make Horry a South Carolina leader on flood protection - learn more here.

Take 3 minutes now to tell County Council that they need to pass this ordinance. We've written a basic email below, but please add your own story. You can even add a photo of flooding in your home or neighborhood. It's hearing your story that will make the difference.
