Break Up With Canada

This Valentine’s Day, stand up to manipulation and deceit.  It’s time to end the Canadian government’s toxic relationship with Indigenous peoples.

Lack of support? Check. Controlling behaviours? Yes. Dishonesty and patterns of disrespect? You’ve got it.

After the RCMP’s violent invasion of Wet’suwet’en territory, 34 land and water protectors, legal observers and journalists were arrested and detained. They were given orders to appear at the BC Supreme Court in Prince George on February 14th, Valentine’s Day — a day of mourning for the countless missing and murdered Indigenous women and girls, for 2SLGBTQQIA peoples and their families across Turtle Island.

The hypocrisy of arresting peaceful land defenders on their own, unceded territory, to block a pipeline that does not have the consent of Hereditary Title Holders to the land while making grand commitments to reconciliation is appalling. Even the Canadian Supreme Court has recognized the sovereignty of Wet’suwet’en hereditary chiefs over their land.
