Ask Governor DeSantis to Please VETO the recently approved vacation rental legislation heading to his desk for signature. SB 280 is a unique example of very “imperfect” legislation. During the legislative debate process, all parties testifying firmly expressed grave concerns over many sections of the bill. House and Senate sponsors and committee members heard from the vacation rental industry, municipalities, counties, the hotel industry, tax associations, Realtors, and many more organizations expressing discontent about these bills and the detrimental outcome of such regulations.
If passed into law, these sweeping vacation rental rules that govern tax policy, advertising platforms, and licensing/registrations will impact everyone from local governments down to Floridians just trying to make a little extra income from their rental homes.
In addition, this legislation places more daily operational burdens on DBPR, an already understaffed state agency. Despite funding this new statute with over $3.8 million taxpayer dollars each year, it is highly unlikely that DBPR will be able to fill dozens of currently open inspector positions, let alone 9 more full-time state employees specific to vacation rentals.
Respectfully ask Governor DeSantis to keep the current vacation rental statute intact and VETO this new legislation. Vacation rentals currently generate over 30 Billion dollars each year for the Florida Tourism Economy which employs thousands of our Florida residents and home maintenance-related contractors. Why risk a negative impact on our #1 industry, tourism and hospitality? Veto SB 280, this is the wrong legislation for the industry and Florida.
Also, consider calling the Governor's Office and asking him to VETO Senate Bill 280. All calls are recorded and will show our opposition to this overreaching legislation. The main phone line is: (850) 717-9337
