Tell your MP to expand the Rapid Housing Initiative

People experiencing homelessness are more than twice as likely to catch COVID-19, 20 times more likely to need hospitalization, 10 times more likely to need intensive care, and over five times more likely to die.

It doesn’t have to be this way. Governments and communities have shown that they can mobilize quickly to deliver effective and long-term solutions to homelessness—but they need support through the RHI (Rapid Housing Initiative).

The RHI is a unique and highly effective program designed to quickly develop new modular multi-unit rentals, convert non-residential buildings into affordable multi-residential homes, and rehabilitate buildings that are abandoned or in disrepair into affordable multi-residential homes. 

This program presents a remarkable opportunity to make our community a stronger, safer, and more equitable place, and has proven to be extremely popular—so much so that it has been dramatically oversubscribed to. Only 1 of 5 applications to the RHI have be funded.

This means that that there are many more quality projects, with funding and agreements already in place, that we may lose if we do not act quickly. These projects are ready today—some right here in our community—and could become affordable or supportive housing tomorrow with an expansion of the RHI.
