Germany: Help Free Saudi Activists

As the virtual G20 Leaders' Summit approaches, we're calling on people around the world to ensure delegations to the summit take this opportunity to raise Saudi Arabia's continuing human rights violations.

In the past year, the human rights situation in Saudi Arabia has further deteriorated. Whilst five of the women human rights defenders detained in 2018 have been provisionally released, Loujain Al-Hathloul, Nouf Abdelaziz, Samar Badawi, Nassima Al-Sadah, Mohammed Al-Bajadi, and Miyaa Al-Zahrani remain in detention.

Speaking out in defense of human rights should not result in detention.

Take action and call on your representatives to stand in solidarity with the detained activists, by using the G20 platform to ask that the Saudi government to:

  • Immediately and unconditionally release all detained human rights defenders, lawyers, and protestors – dropping all charges against them.
  • Enable human rights defenders and activists to freely express and exercise their rights to freedom of expression.
  • Fully dismantle the male guardianship system in law and practice.
  • Revise the Penal Code, the Law on Associations and Foundations, and the Charity Associations and Foundations Bylaw to ensure freedom of association for civil society organizations, according to international standards
