Fight racism and discrimination by providing clean drinking water in Indigenous communities and increasing the diversity and cultural competency training of the health workforce.

I am writing to express my support for the election platform recommendations of the Canadian Nurses Association (CNA). I understand firsthand how CNA’s proposed recommendations would benefit the health of all people living in Canada.

Canada’s 440,000 nurses have been playing a critical role and have carried out tremendous work in precarious settings while working tirelessly to keep Canadians safe during the COVID-19 pandemic. Their perspectives are essential in the development of effective health-care solutions and public policies.

I am concerned with the state of Canada’s health-care system and the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, particularly on the most vulnerable. I urge your party to support CNA’s recommendations during this election and to take swift action of their implementation afterwards:

•Support health workers by providing them with long-term mental health supports and by addressing critical health workforce gaps through better data.
•Expand access to virtual care by developing a pan-Canadian digital health strategy and improving access to high-speed internet across Canada.
•Meet the needs of Canada’s older adults by redesigning the long-term care sector through pan-Canadian standards and providing more funding for seniors care.
•Fight racism and discrimination by providing clean drinking water in Indigenous communities and increasing the diversity and cultural competency training of the health workforce.
