Write a Letter about the DISCLOSE Act!

Goal: 200

America is confronting a historic set of challenges — a never-ending pandemic, economic hardship, sky-high health costs, a warming planet, and more. Wealthy special interests and big-money donors hold too much power, and they use political loopholes to hide their spending on lobbying, elections, and judicial confirmation hearings.

Over $1 billion of dark money was spent in the 2020 election cycle alone, according to Open Secrets. And organizations backed by anonymous donors funded and organized the Trump rally on the morning of the January 6th insurrection at the U.S. Capitol.

This weaponization of untraceable money has enabled corporate and special interests to push their agenda in Washington without ever being linked to their toxic advertisements or lobby efforts. Thankfully, we have a solution. The DISCLOSE Act would take crucial steps toward protecting our democracy by shining a bright light on the dark money that corrupts our system. It's time for the Senate to make the promise of democracy real by taking the imperative step of shining a bright light on secret, dark money spending through passing the DISCLOSE Act.

Write a Letter to the Editor to your local newspaper and make your voice heard on the continued need for Congress and the White House to tackle secret money by passing the DISCLOSE Act, inserting key points and your own words, stories, and ideas to make sure it is as strong as possible. Your letter is more likely to be published if it:

  • Engages your Audience
  • States the Problem
  • Informs the Solution
  • Ends with a Call to Action
