Stop Healthcare Privatization!

The Ford government has passed Bill-60 which is an unlawful attack on Ontario's public healthcare.

Bill-60 allows the government to open private, for-profit hospitals, clinics and facilities which will make wealth the determining factor for treatment, rather than medical need.

This violates the Canada Health Act which states that healthcare in Canada exists to "protect, promote and restore the physical and mental well-being of residents of Canada and to facilitate reasonable access to health services without financial or other barriers."

Privatization of our public healthcare in Ontario is a threat to accessibility, equity, quality of care, and public accountability. We must fight to keep our healthcare publicly funded and accessible to all Ontarians.

I believe that access to health care should be based on need — not on the ability to pay. Patients need must come before profit.

For-profit private health care takes staff and resources away from the public system, making wait times even longer in public hospitals. Additionally, private clinics are charging patients for services that should be covered by public health insurance, and up-selling for ‘boutique’ services. This creates unequal access to healthcare and violates the Canada Health Act.

Today, I am asking you to protect the rights of Ontarians to access public, equitable health care. I urge you to uphold the Canada Health Act and stop further privatization now.
