Speak up for more co-op housing: Tell the federal government to launch the co-operative housing development program without delay.
Co-operative housing has been a community-driven housing solution for decades. Previous eras of government investment in the 1970s and 1980s helped build thousands of good quality co-op homes that continue to offer affordability, stability, and community connection.
With the rising cost of living and a growing housing crisis, new co-op housing is needed now more than ever.
In 2022, the federal government committed $1 billion in loans and $500 million in grants for new co-op housing through the Co-operative Housing Development Program. This new program is the first dedicated federal investment in co-op housing in 30 years and the funding will help create thousands of new co-op homes.
To build new housing co-ops across the country, the program needs to start. That is why co-operative housing organizations are calling on the federal government to launch this new program without delay.
This campaign is hosted by the Co-operative Housing Federation of Canada - the national voice for housing co-operatives.
