EPA Must Release Promised Environmental Justice Funds Now
Overview
Help us ensure that the White House and EPA act with resolve for democracy and do what they say they will do. Long story short, the EPA has funds that are meant to invest in environmental justice communities that it hasn’t released yet; funds must be obligated by December 6. Tell Congress to demand the EPA release these obligated funds ASAP.
Background
It is the last week of November, and although our designed grantmaking program grounded in environmental justice principles, by and for communities most impacted by the climate crisis and industrial pollution, has met all of the EPA’s requirements, we have not received the environmental justice funds yet, and we need your help.
Climate-related Inflation Reduction Act (IRA) funds, especially those designated to address environmental injustice should be obligated immediately to ensure communities can access these life-saving resources in the coming year.
The EPA Thriving Communities Grantmaker Program funds, dedicated to do just that, must be obligated by the EPA before Dec. 6th. It could set a dangerous civil society precedent around our First Amendment rights if they are not.
In this new context, we know that many are already feeling the chilling effects of the new administration to come and sadly politicized attacks seem to be working. We can’t let this stand for our communities!
Help us ensure that the government upholds democracy and does what it says it will do by calling and emailing your Democratic legislators today!
