Tell the County to Prioritize Community Needs
The County lacks a viable Climate Action Plan (CAP) to slash climate pollution and develop healthier, resilient communities protected from climate impacts and natural disasters (👀 wildfires…).
We’ve seen how dangerous it is to be unprepared. In January, our communities were hit with devastating storms and floods. The County has the opportunity to adopt a draft CAP that could successfully address these issues.
Here’s where we stand: This is an important step, and we urge the County to adopt the proposed CAP in addition to frameworks that uplift community needs. 👇
The County should mirror the efforts of the City of San Diego’s Climate Equity Fund by developing a Community Equity and Resilience Fund that will prioritize communities hit first and worst by climate impacts and allocate funds specifically to build resilience in the communities that need it the most.
Part of building resilience is helping residents live in safe, walkable communities with access to the people and resources they need. People shouldn't be priced out of these neighborhoods and forced to live in dangerous, high-fire zones. The County must adopt the Fire Safe and VMT Efficient Smart Growth Alternative, encouraging more housing in neighborhoods not prone to wildfires.
This is a huge opportunity to build the equitable and sustainable San Diego region we all deserve. Raise your voice to protect the people and places you love ➡️
