Stop SoCalGas From Using UC Irvine Students in Dangerous Experiment
SoCal Gas and UCI are planning to use students and faculty in a dangerous hydrogen/methane blending experiment in UCI dormitories and other buildings, ignoring a mountain of research on the safety, health, climate, and environmental justice risks associated with the project, highlighted recently by the American Medical Association, Physicians for Social Responsibility, Sierra Club, NRDC, and EarthJustice.
None of the high school seniors that applied to UC Irvine or other students have given their consent to be used in this experiment in the Mesa Court freshman dorms or other buildings on campus. SCG has a long track record of safety violations including the largest methane gas leak in U.S. history, sickening residents and forcing more than 8,000 families to flee their homes.
Join us to call on the proposal's key supporters to stop this dangerous, greenwashed gas industry scam now. Send an email to UCI Chancellor Gillman, Chair Rangel, and Irvine's elected representatives to tell them that student health and a livable future are more important than gas industry profits!
