Keep solar alive at schools, farms, and apartment buildings
We experience the climate crisis every day and are reminded of it every time we step outside into another “record-breaking heat” day. We need to slash emissions now, everywhere, and in every way we can if we want to avoid the worst climate impacts. This means local renewable energy in every place possible- and for many, that looks like solar. There have been many policy changes regarding solar, making it more difficult for folks to get it, but some of our assembly members have the opportunity to fix this issue next week.
Previously, the California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) made drastic changes to how we can use energy we create from solar- one of them being that entities with more than one meter aren’t able to use solar energy created on one meter at another meter on the same property. This effectively means that for many Schools, Farms, and Apartment Buildings with solar, it is not cost-effective to have solar. This hurts folks who already have solar and discourages new schools, farms, and apartment buildings from getting solar.
SB 1374 fixes this, allowing multi-meter customers to generate electricity on one meter to offset usage on another, thereby giving them credit for consuming solar power they generate on their property! SB 1374 will be up for review at the Assembly Utilities and Energy Committee on July 1st and some of our SoCal reps sit on this committee and have the opportunity to have a huge climate impact on our community.
Join us in calling on our representatives to vote yes on SB1374 and keep solar alive at Schools, farms, and apartment buildings!
