Take action: Nurses are hanging by a thread
Two years of fighting COVID-19 has exhausted Canada's health care workers and brought our health care system to the brink on multiple occasions. Why wasn't our health care system better prepared to confront a pandemic? For years, it's been underfunded and neglected. Health care workers are chronically understaffed and trying to do more and more with less and less.
Let's be clear: There is no healthcare without health care workers. There is no health care without nurses.
We need bold leadership to tackle the nursing shortage. The federal government needs to call a meeting of health care leaders across the country to discuss critical priorities, including urgently needed strategies to retain and recruit health care workers.
Canada's longstanding nursing shortage threatens the future sustainability of the health care system we all hold so dear.
