For years, nurses have faced crushing and unsafe workloads, only made worse by the current pandemic. There simply aren’t enough nurses and health care workers to meet the growing demands on our system.

Chronic shortages of nurses and health care staff lead to burnout and other forms of mental distress, increased violence against workers, and compromised care for the patients who rely on them. COVID-19 has brought an already overstretched workforce to its breaking point.

We need targeted funding to hire more nurses and health workers, and better data on our health workforce to make sure we have enough health care staff to meet growing need.
