No-one wants to get sick, but when we do, we want to know that we can take the time to get better whilst still paying the bills and making ends meet.

The Safe Sick Pay campaign is supporting people across the county to meet with their MPs to ask them to support an increase in Statutory Sick Pay, for all employees, from the first day of illness.

I hope you are well. I am your constituent, sending this email to raise the importance of Statutory Sick Pay reform, working with the Centre For Progressive Change.

The UK’s legal minimum sick pay is amongst the lowest of any wealthy country, and often forces people to go back into work before they have recovered from illness or injury.

Presenteeism, when workers show up to work whilst still sick sick harms the economy and has a severe impact on people's mental and physical health. Many cleaners and carers do not even qualify for any sick pay due to the arbitrary earnings threshold. People with disabilities, women, and people from ethnic minority backgrounds are disproportionately penalised under our current system.

The campaign calls to:
Increase the rate of Statutory Sick Pay
Remove the earnings threshold for Statutory Sick Pay
Ensure Statutory Sick Pay is payable from the first day

These three changes to Statutory Sick Pay legislation that would make great improvements to public health, personal wellbeing and help people get back on their feet and back to work after illness.

The campaign brings together a growing list of Parliamentary champions (https://www.centreforprogressivechange.org/campaigns/sickpay) and a coalition of businesses, health charities, and civil society organisations who are calling for changes to the UK's Statutory Sick Pay regime.
