With UN climate negotiations around the corner, Canada has an opportunity to be a climate leader on the world stage.

We have approximately 10 years to dramatically cut emissions if we hope to avoid the worst impacts of global warming. Canada has both the capacity as a wealthy country, and the moral obligation as a high emitter, to do more to solve this climate crisis.

At next month’s UN climate negotiations in Madrid, countries will commit to submitting revised emission reduction plans before the next round of negotiations in 2020.

Canada must show leadership and commit to more ambitious climate goals in the lead up.

That means ensuring our plans include:
•	quantitative and qualitive data on the impact on jobs; and 
•	tracking and reporting on just transition measures, to demonstrate the impacts of building an inclusive green economy.

Canada should call on the rest of the world to do the same.

That’s how we can spur the political will to solve this climate emergency and build a fair future for Canada and the world.
