Affordable child care matters to me Families are getting ready for back to school in the fall. We know many parents will struggle to secure morning drop-offs and after school care. Tell the party leaders you expect to hear their plan for affordable child care if they want your vote. First Name * Last Name * Email Address * Postal Code Cell Phone We'll notify the party leaders. Hon. Jagmeet Singh (New Democratic Party Leader) Rt. Hon Justin Trudeau (Prime Minister) Hon. Andrew Scheer (Conservative Party Leader) Hon. Elizabeth May (Green Party Leader) Yves-François Blanchet (Party Leader of the Bloc Québécois) Your Letter * Dear Party Leader, As families prepare for their children to return to school in September, many are struggling to secure morning drop-offs and after school care. This is because there simply aren’t enough child care spaces to meet demand. Right now, there are only enough regulated child care spaces for 25 percent of kids under the age of five. At the same time, the cost of those limited spaces is astronomical. Our child care costs are among the highest in the world. Too often, this means women, who already do the majority of unpaid household work, end up staying home and taking care of the kids. In 2017, nearly 300,000 women who needed to work full time weren’t able to because they couldn’t find the child care they needed. Parents need to be able to go to work knowing their children are safe and well cared for. In the upcoming election, will your party’s platform commit to increasing child care spending over time until it reaches at least one percent of GDP? This is the international benchmark for child care spending used by the OECD, UNICEF and other international bodies. Canadian families can’t wait. We need truly universal, affordable, inclusive, public and high quality child care now. Sincerely, [your name will go here] [your location will go here] Leave this field blank
