Aquatic ecosystems are home to more than 80% of the world's biodiversity, from ancient bacteria living in deep ocean vents to colorful coral and waddling penguins.
But this amazing biodiversity is at risk. Research shows 1 million species worldwide are nearing extinction and, although a majority of our blue planet is covered in water, less than 10% is protected. The protections that do exist are shown to stabilize biodiversity and also help fight climate change.
At Shedd, we strongly believe that aquatic wildlife and wild places are worth saving. With fellow conservation organizations, we are calling on world leaders to protect at least 30% of land, sea and freshwater habitat by 2030. This goal of “30 by 30” secures a better future for wildlife, their habitats and humans.
But we can’t do this without you.
Join Shedd and urge Congress to support Senator Tom Udall and Representative Deb Haaland’s “Thirty by Thirty Resolution to Save Nature.” Once you do, please encourage your friends to do the same on social media. Every voice counts!
We are so grateful to you. Thank you for protecting our amazing aquatic wildlife!
