Call Your State Legislator in Support of the California Abolition Act (ACA3)

It's 2021, but slavery is still legal in California. Article 1, Section 6 of the California Constitution allows involuntary servitude "as a punishment for crime where of the party shall have been duly convicted." In practice, involuntary servitude means incarcerated Californians are being forced to work against their will from fighting deadly wildfires to manufacturing license plates. If incarcerated people refuse to work, the state can and does punish them, including extending the time they must serve. In short, involuntary servitude is slavery by another name.

It's past time for California to end this practice and live up to its values.

When you click the MAKE THE CALL button, the system will call your phone and patch you through.  PLEASE HAVE YOUR PHONE READY.

Here are some key points to mention:

  • It is morally outrageous that any form of slavery is permitted in our state in 2021
  • Forcing incarcerated people to fight fires and create products for corporations is a disgusting form of exploitation
  • Involuntary servitude is a cruel practice that must end
  • The people of California deserve the opportunity to end this practice through our state's proposition process
  • ADD any personal testimony about your experiences or the experiences of your loved ones regarding involuntary servitude
